What does it mean to adopt a Stolperstein?
Adopting a stone means becoming its patron. As a patron, you return to “your” stone from time to time, keep the brass plaque clean, and check that the stone is in good condition. This helps ensure that the name of the person the stone commemorates remains legible and visible in the city.
Can I adopt a stone even if I have no personal relationship with its subject?
Yes. Most patrons are not related to the people being commemorated. Adoption is a way to take on civic responsibility for the memory of the place where we live. And we can also try to connect you with the subject's family.
Can I adopt more than one Stolperstein?
Yes. If you are willing and able to do so, you can take care of more than one stone – for example, in one street, neighbourhood, or in the vicinity of your school or workplace..
Can I share information about my adoption?
Yes, we would love you to do so. Whenever you stop by your stone, or go to clean it, why not take a picture of yourself and share it on social media? You can use the hashtag #cistimestolpersteine.
Can a school or a group of people adopt a stone?
Yes! A stone can be adopted by an individual, family, school, club, company or other group. Several people can also join together to look after a stone or a group of Stolpersteine.
What should I do if I find that a stone is damaged or missing?
If you notice that a stone is damaged, loose or has been removed (for example during excavation work, please let us know via email: info@stolpersteine-praha.cz. This will help us arrange for a repair or replacement.
What if I can no longer take care of the stone?
Just let us know. We'll mark the stone as 'unadopted' on the map, and it can be taken over by another patron. The purpose of adoption is to preserve the memory, but it's not a lifelong commitment.
Is it possible to arrange for the installation of a new Stolperstein?
